Equine Assisted Interventions - Psychomotricity and Physiotherapy

The objectives are specific and priority neuromotor, with regard to the individual's rehabilitation process. It is a clinically guided approach that is led by health professionals with the support of riding instructors and purpose-trained horses. The objective is to obtain contributions from rehabilitation through the movement of the horse and not equestrian teaching (FRDI cit APPC, 2003). This discipline is indicated for individuals with severe limitations and little ability to interact with the environment and marks social and therapeutic awareness as a priority for those responsible for the AJC. Autism, Down syndrome, muscular dystrophy and neurodegenerative diseases are among the pathologies that can be treated using this modality. In this unit, it is mandatory that students be monitored by a physiotherapist from the institution.

Equine Assisted Psychomotricity

Psychomotor objectives are mentioned, more directed towards specific needs in the educational, psychological or cognitive area. Here you can see progress in learning to ride. The person responsible is the health technician (psychomotor therapist) who works in close partnership with everyone involved in the rehabilitation process (educators, psychologists and therapists), in order to define objectives (FRDI cit APPC, 2003).
